Hebrews 12:1-2 – Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (NIV)

Several years ago, my boss at the time told me about a friend of hers who was on his first trip to England, excited to find himself in front of the oldest occupied castle in the world, Windsor Castle. As he stood with his tour group, he heard all about the rich history of the place, and how it housed some of England's most notable masterpieces by Rubens, Holbein, and Van Dyck. Henry VIII's tomb is situated in St. George's Chapel on the grounds. Camera ready, he was snapping away and wanted so badly to catch a glimpse of something truly noteworthy to show his friends back home.

Suddenly, there was a gasp of awe from the crowd. There, emerging from the side door were the Queen's corgis. The little dogs were let loose to "do their business" on the lawn in an area cordoned off for such things. As the man focused on setting up some artistic shots of these most famous canines, he failed to see what the more observant tourists were treated to. Right in front of them, Prince Charles whisked out the front gate and into a waiting sedan. Cameras flashed, but not the dog watcher's! He was too busy watching the corgis relieving themselves.

How he kicked himself when he realized what had happened! He was focused on "poop", when royalty was passing by!

Where is our focus today? We can easily get caught up in spotlighting the "poop" in our lives: the struggles, the trials, those day-to-day annoyances that take us into the "dead zone". And Royalty is right in front of us! The Prince of Peace, the King of kings is right there waiting open-armed for our focus to be on Him.

Psalm 46:1 – God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. (NIV)

Prayer: Lord, we pray today that You would help us to trust You and to fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith! Amen.
