I can sense that spring is in the air in the part of Canada where I live. The signs to me are melting snowbanks and the sun with bone-warming heat in it. Birds are beginning to return, and small patches of lawn are beginning to emerge. And yes, the garbage that had blown from winter storms up and down the street is also rising as the snowbanks melt. After a relatively warm winter with less snow than usual, I still find myself waiting in anticipation for the changing season.

As I was driving a few days ago, I found myself dodging and swerving to miss the potholes and frost-raised sections of roadway. Could it be another sign of spring? I truly hope so. No matter where we live, we must encounter some signs of a change in season. It may not be as obvious as it is here, but if we look closely, I am sure we can see them.

I liken dodging potholes to the Christian walk, so filled as it is with all kinds of spiritual potholes and pitfalls that this world wants to draw us into. Not even Jesus was without those potholes in His life, as He was tempted many times and had many challenges. But He did not look down and focus on the potholes; He looked up to the One who would guide Him safely on His way.

Mark 10:32 – Now they were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was going before them; and they were amazed. And as they followed they were afraid. Then He took the twelve aside again and began to tell them the things that would happen to Him. (NKJV)

To navigate life's road ahead of us, it is essential to look to the One who will direct our paths and who knows the road ahead of us. We must not try to make our way on our own.

Prayer: Dear Lord, we are sorry for the times when we try to go it alone. We praise and thank You for all that You have created for us on this earth. Help us to navigate our way with our eyes fixed on You, the author and creator of our lives. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
