Matthew 5:6 – Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. (KJV)

A few months ago, after an exceedingly deep and meaningful repentance, I put myself on the strictest diet ever. The main reason and priority goal was to bring my blood sugar levels down to a healthier and more consistent standard. I'm happy, very happy to say, I've done it! I've reached that goal, beyond all I asked or could imagine.

Naturally, I'm experiencing a fountain of other benefits: less medication, better health in general, more activities, weight loss, et cetera, as well as many spiritual blessings. Have I been hungry? Oh, yes! Truly, very hungry. But I've continued to hunger more for those righteous results. I can honestly testify that God has blessed me over and above the 7.0 blood sugar levels, which would have been acceptable to my medical care team.

For those familiar with diabetes blood sugar readings, back in August 2009, through my own weaknesses, my daily average had risen to 10.6: dangerously high. In October, my average daily levels were down to 7.2. Now, in December and January, they have come down further to a daily average of 4.2. My medical team is smiling and delightedly encouraging me, to say the least. I'm amazed, thrilled, and excited.

A miracle? Well, it is God's fulfillment of the promises in today's Scripture about hungering and thirsting after righteousness, and also in Jeremiah 23:6b — "and this is His name by which He shall be called: The Lord Our Righteousness." (AMP)

Christ's righteousness is perfect. In Christ's righteousness, all believers may triumph and may shine more brightly than angels. Bodily hunger cannot make a person as miserable as spiritual hunger can make a person "blessed". The righteous appetite is a blessed gift from God. In my case, what is a bit of bodily hunger, when the results are so evidently expedient, so inwardly, outwardly, scripturally, spiritually, and physically beneficial?

Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for a heart, a life, full of gratitude, thanksgiving, praise, and worship. Thank You for Your more-than-hundred-fold blessings and the fulfilled promises of Your Word to us. O Lord, what a life You have truly gifted us with. Thank You so very much. In Your perfectly righteous, holy name. Amen and Amen!
