Ephesians 4:22-24 – You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. (NIV)

I did not know what I would do with the chair, but I distinctly felt that God wanted me to purchase it. It had been donated by one of our local artists, and the sale price would be given as a donation toward the local art gallery. I put off going to the gallery for a few days, but still, the nagging persisted. Finally, I drove down, paid for the chair, and loaded it into my van. As I drove home, I suddenly knew exactly where I would place this new acquisition.

Interestingly enough, the chair itself was non-descript — just a simple wooden kitchen chair. What was unique about it, however, was the mosaic tiles that the artist used to change this very ordinary chair into something extraordinary. The seat was covered with beautiful, vibrant pieces of variously shaped and coloured mosaic tiles. The tiles also covered the arch of the chair's back. Truly, it was a lovely and unique piece of work.

Likewise, in Christ, each and every person is changed from the ordinary into the extraordinary. When we accept the person of Jesus and His teaching into our daily lives, we become new in the attitude of our minds. We become more and more like God. His righteousness and His holiness permeate our very beings. Our old sinful natures give way to the power of the Lord, and our lives become enriched by the mosaic of Christ's love. St. Paul goes on to instruct:

Ephesians 4:32 – Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. (NIV)

How infinitely wonderful and amazing is this — the natural becomes supernatural!

Prayer: Lord God, thank You that, in Christ, the ordinary becomes the extraordinary. May the mosaic of Your love shine forth from within us this day to touch supernaturally each and every one we meet. Amen.
