Today, in a driving rain, Princess and I walked quickly down the tar and chipped roadway. She was looking for "her spot". When she found it, I had the time to savour our surroundings.

The buttercups were in bloom! Even in the rain, they raised their yellow heads higher, as if to praise their Creator for the God-given moisture.

They scintillated. They sparkled. They rejoiced.

I huddled further into my hooded raincoat. I'm much less inclined to scintillate in the rain!

To my muttering attitude, St. Paul wrote,

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 – Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. (NIV)

In spite of my sourpuss, those buttercups gave me a reminder of God's will for me! Even more, they reminded me of how we picked buttercups when I was a child. We held their dainty yellow flowers to our cheeks, then asked one another, "Do you love butter?" If our cheeks bore a yellow reflection, then we were said to love butter. If not, then not.

As I mused, another question popped into my mind. "Does my face show others that I love Jesus?"

John 13:35 – Jesus said, "By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." (NIV)

Prayer: Lord Jesus, may our faces show others Your grace. May the mark of Your love scintillate from our faces. May all know we are Christians by the love that we show one another, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
