My long-anticipated Chronological Study Bible (Thomas Nelson) finally arrived this week. I don't know how they managed it, but this medium-sized, easy-to-read print Bible is chock full of cultural information, time capsules, and explanations of difficult subjects.

No, I haven't read every word yet, but I love it already. It's a joy to use and a colour delight to the senses. Try to imagine the Psalms sprinkled throughout the Old Testament or the Gospels intermingled and printed in order of happening events.

No doubt, scholars, pastors, teachers, and serious writers will find it invaluable because it eliminates the need for several other study books, but everyday folk like me will appreciate it too. It has shaken up my study time in a way I never thought possible. I can no longer read mindlessly through designated daily readings. The Word has come alive to me again.

Still, none of these things would be true for me if this Bible lay on a dusty shelf buried among other "someday" reads. I expect the same could be said about every one of us.

Prayer: Lord, thanks for the freedom to read Your Word. Forgive us for all the times we haven't taken You seriously. We will be opening Your book today. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
