1 John 3:22 – We receive from Him whatever we ask, because we obey His commandments, and do what pleases Him. (NRSV)

There are many sets of "Commandments". As a hunter safety training instructor, I teach the "Ten Commandments of Hunter Safety" to every class, and strongly recommend compliance. Then, there are the "Safety Patrol Commandments" which we taught student Crossing Guards, when I was in education. There are many more sets of commandments. I wonder what a new set of "commandments" for God's Church might be like.

Perhaps something like these?

Thou shalt do more than belong: thou shalt participate.
Thou shalt do more than care: thou shalt help.
Thou shalt do more than believe: thou shalt practice.
Thou shalt be more than fair: thou shalt be generous.
Thou shalt do more than forgive: thou shalt accept and forget.
Thou shalt do more than teach: thou shalt inspire.
Thou shalt do more than give: thou shalt serve.
Thou shalt do more than live: thou shalt grow and mature.
Thou shalt be more than friendly: thou shalt be a friend.
Thou shalt do more than receive: thou shalt share with others.

1 John 3:24 – All who obey his commandments abide in him, and he abides in them. By this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit he has given us. (NRSV)

Prayer: Loving, giving, and forgiving heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and Holy Spirit, open our senses to hear, see, and feel the "commandments" that You have for each of us. Help us to love as You love us, by serving You in whatever way You would have us serve. Thank You for Your loving care and for the blessed promise of sharing eternity with You and Your angels. Amen.
