Luke 15:8-10 – Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Does she not light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbours together and says, "Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin." In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents. (NIV)

On July 26, 2008, the Daily Devotional was written by Judy Miller, who titled it, "Looking! Hunting! Searching!" She spoke of searching everywhere for a lost item and then finding it when a light was turned on. Her devotional reminded me of Jesus' parable of the lost coin in today's Scripture.

Recently, I lost two keys. One was my mailbox key, and the other was my car key. Now, the lost car key was a spare one, so that wasn't missed right away. However, I missed the mailbox key the very next day! I searched high and low for it, but never found it. In the end, I had to replace it, at a cost.

But the search for the car key was different. Since this key contained a chip and was expensive, I was panic-stricken! Like the woman in Jesus' parable, I tore the place apart, trying to find it. I even called around to see if I'd left it behind someplace. All was to no avail.

In desperation, I prayed. Then just when hope was nearly lost too, the phone rang. It was the car dealer. I had indeed left it there. The lost had been found!

I was jubilant! I felt like jumping for joy!

In His parable, Jesus remarked that heaven throws a party when someone comes home to God. The Lord just loves it when one of us comes back.

Why not come back home to God? There will be a party!

Prayer: God of joy, thank You for loving us so much that all heaven rejoices when we return to You. Thank You for forgiveness through Jesus Christ. Amen.
