Hebrews 5:12 – In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God's word all over again. (NIV)

When I was a child, I took swimming lessons each summer. I would start in the beginners' class, because I was afraid to swim in deep water. Finally, in the third year, the instructor put me in the junior class. After a week, she decided to move me to the intermediate class. The swimming teacher led the class to the deep end of the pool, six feet deep, to be exact. Then, she turned to me, whose knees were trembling out of fear, and said, "Jump in and tread water." With reluctance, I did, only to find myself standing on the bottom of the pool in a panic. I was waving my arms trying to swim upwards. I was running out of breath and could hear people yelling, "Get the pole!" I held onto that pole and was pulled out of the water.

I knew how to swim, but fear held me down. Fear often holds us back from rising to the occasion. We learn God's commandments by reading His words in the Bible, listening to Sunday's sermons, and attending special events at church. God doesn't want us to remain in the beginners' class. He wants us to move out of our comfort zone to be able to share His words with others.

2 Timothy 1:7 – For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. (NKJV)

Prayer: Dear God, give us courage, and strengthen our feeble knees to be able to share Your gospel with others. Let our lips glorify and praise Your name forevermore. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
