Philemon 1:6 – I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ. (NIV)

Have you ever gotten into a conversation with someone who does not go to church or does not know the Lord? I am amazed at how those of us who are part of the church can be perceived. Even though some people don't attend church — or have gone perhaps a few times — they associate those of us who do with church potatoes. The kind I mean are the baked potatoes or scalloped potatoes that were and may even still be found at church dinners.

Recently, I even met someone who asked me if I belonged to the casserole brigade — the people who provide meals to families in need within the church. This may take place when someone in the family is ill and meals are provided to help the family out during this time.

It would be easy in both these cases to take offence at these comments, but in each case, I was given grace by Jesus to share who Jesus Christ is in my life. To my knowledge, neither of the people has come to know the Lord yet, but their comments provided an opening that allowed me to walk into sharing the love and truth of Jesus Christ.

Such opportunities allow for far more significant conversation than talk about the weather or other things that have no real bearing on how a person may spend eternity.

Romans 5:15 – But the free gift is not like the offense. For if by the one man's offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many. (NJKV)

Prayer: Dear Jesus, we thank You for each and every time that we are able to witness and share with others who You are in our lives. Help us to be sensitive to Your Spirit working in us, and to respond appropriately. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
