A recent conversation came around to how we celebrate Valentine's Day. I shared that we have two boys, and that to show our love to each other, we all take red and pink paper and cut it into heart shapes. We then write on the paper a word or sentence to each other. We place the shapes in each other's lunches, or in their desks, or in the pockets of their clothes, or in just about any place we could think of where they would come across them that day. In some cases, we have found them a few days or weeks later. For me, it was just as special whenever I came across one, whether it was the next day or weeks later.

As I reflect on this, I become aware of how our love for one another is limited to this earth. As big as our love is, it does have its limits.

Psalm 103:11 – For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him. (ESV)

What an awesome verse on which to meditate! We cannot even comprehend how far the heavens are above the earth. We are limited to the earth and our experiences on it. Yet we know that the God who created this earth is above it all, and His love for us stretches down to us — and not just to one or two, but to all who receive.

Ephesians 3:17-19 – So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith — that you, being rooted and grounded in love may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. (ESV)

Prayer: Dear Jesus, help us to show Your love to others all through the year. We are thankful when a special day or event reminds us to do this. Show us how to share the love of Christ in ways that will have eternal significance. Challenge us to share the gospel this Valentine's Day, showing the real love of this world and of Your Son Jesus Christ, in Whose name we pray. Amen.
