John 1:12 – However, he gave the right to become God's children to everyone who believed in him. (GWT)

1 Peter 5:7 – Casting all your care upon Him, because He cares about you. (HCSB)

Deuteronomy 6:6-7 – Never forget these commands that I am giving you today. Teach them to your children. Repeat them when you are at home and when you are away, when you are resting and when you are working. (GNB)

Several times over the years, I have quit a job and looked for a new one. Each time, I have found it difficult to write my resume. I really should have kept a copy of the previous ones so that I had a starting point.

When I write a resume, I go back, in my mind, to where I worked. Which years did I work there? Who was my supervisor? What were my responsibilities at that job? What were the educational requirements for that job, and when did I complete them? It is a long process, a thought-provoking process, at times. I have to go over those questions for each job that I have had.

I would like to suggest that in the spiritual realm, we have a resume as well. What have we done with our lives? What were the choices we made? How can we list those choices? Is that not a thought-provoking exercise as well?

To have a spiritual resume, we start with the experience of accepting the Lord as our Saviour. Then, what comes after that? Could we say that we read our Bible, prayed, and meditated on His Word? Could we write that we obeyed in caring for others? Could we say that we cast our burdens on the Lord because He cares for us? Could we say that we served where we were needed? Could we say that we taught our children that Jesus loves them? Could we write that we led someone to the Lord? What is on our spiritual resume?

Prayer: Lord, it is very sobering to think about our spiritual resume. Maybe we have wasted a lot of time in our lives. Maybe we have not been productive, in the eternal sense. What we write from here on can change, though. Our resume can be different. Help us to obey You in every area of our lives. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
