John 5:39-40 – You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life. (NIV)
Some people think that reading the Bible is what gets them into heaven. It doesn't. If that were the case, we could read the whole Bible once and be assured of our passage into God's everlasting presence beyond the pearly gates.
The Bible acts as a guidebook for all of us, pointing us in the direction of Jesus. He is the Word of God, and it's only through Him that we can be forgiven, saved, and welcomed into heaven. As we re-encounter Christ as a little child next week, we should also remind ourselves that He is no longer weak and lowly, vulnerable and frail. He is the mightiest being in the whole universe, the King of all creation, and the Lord of everlasting life. Christmas is about letting Jesus be born in our hearts and allowing ourselves to worship, adore, and serve only Him.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, as Christmas draws nearer each day, help us to remember that You are all-powerful and almighty, all-knowing and all-seeing. Accept our lives and our love. Grant us a holy purpose so that we may always praise You, both now and forever. Amen.
