Romans 8:28 – We are assured and know that [God being a partner in their labour] all things work together and are [fitting into a plan] for good to and for those who love God and are called according to [His] design and purpose. (AMP)

As I was reading "The Jigsaw Book" by Linda Hannas, I thought of my jigsaw-loving husband, and decided to test him. "What is it?" I asked, and read the following paragraph to him.

When Lord Spencer's son was four years old (that is, in 1762) he knew the situation of every kingdom, country, county, city, and river in the world. For this attainment he was indebted to a play thing, having been accustomed to amuse himself with those maps which are cut into several compartments, so as to be thrown into a heap of confusion, that they may be put back together again with an exact coincidence of all their angles and bearings, so as to form a perfect whole.

"Huh!" says my jigsaw guy, with a grin. "Of course, the boy is playing with jigsaw puzzles, but the answer could just as easily be your quilts. You cut perfectly good fabric into bits and then sew it up to make a whole again."

Like a quilt? Or a jigsaw? No matter. When something happens that breaks us into a million pieces, we can joyfully expect our living God to reorganize our heap of confusion, and turn it all into a thing of beauty. And during the process, like the Spencer child, we will be learning.

Prayer: Lord, here we are. Some of us are in bits, others in confusion, all of us being made whole by Your masterful hand. Lord, always, always teach us more about Yourself in the process! For Christ's sake, we pray. Amen.
