Psalm 63:2-5 – I have seen you in your sanctuary and gazed upon your power and glory. Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how I praise you! I will praise you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer. You satisfy me more than the richest feast. I will praise you with songs of joy. (NLT)

It was the stillness that hit me first. You know the kind I'm talking about — the kind where you can focus on the smallest of sounds, like the buzz of the bees. As a matter of fact, sometimes that's all you could hear, with the exception of the occasional loon calling or a squirrel chattering.

I perched on a rock, cradling my coffee, looking out over the pristine scenery that was painted before me. A sea of variegated greens met my gaze as it swept upwards. I watched as the setting sun danced over the tops of the trees.

I had not been this still in years! The rat race of school, graduating, and entering the work force had left me feeling anything but comfortable. When I was presented with time to myself, time to think, I was anything but content! But here, here, I settled. Upon first meeting this land, I marvelled at how I could do nothing but sit and listen. I realized that all my senses were alive again!

I noticed the gentle sound of the wind whispering through the trees. It brushed past me, rippling through my hair. I felt as though I had been gently caressed, and I was reminded, I Am is here!

Romans 1:20 – For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities — his eternal power and divine nature — have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made. (NIV)

We all need to take time to sit and enjoy the presence of God.

Prayer: Creator God, when we gaze upon the wonder of Your creation, we are amazed, for You considered all things from the most intricate to the majestic. We are reminded that You are the Great I Am, the Alpha and Omega. We praise You for the gift of each new day and the witness of creation reminding us that You are Emmanuel, God with us. May we never take for granted, but cherish and respect this precious world You have placed us in. Amen.
