Jeremiah 10:13 – When He utters His voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens: "And He causes the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth. He makes lightning for the rain, He brings the wind out of His treasuries." (NKJV)

Psalm 135:7 – He makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth; he sends lightning with the rain and brings out the wind from his storehouses. (NIV)

Outside my kitchen window, I have a view of the pasture in the early morning. It is a little lower than the yard, so the dew gathers there as vapour. Frosty crystals dance with light in their brief and brilliant life, as the sun's warming glow changes them into a soft mist that gently rises from the earth. In that brief moment, creation sings again with an ancient melody that has been playing since the dawn of creation.

During a drought in the south, many irrigation systems are seen in the fields spreading life-giving drops to parching crops. It is heartbreaking to see a field of corn or other crop, without irrigation equipment, shrivel up and dry on the stalk. Scenes like these really impress on us what can happen to a life without water.

Water comes in many forms: ocean waves, snow, vapours, mists, raindrops, and storms. Each has a beauty of its own. Gentle waves soothe the ears; mists and vapours bring serenity and calmness; fallen snow sparks the imagination; and gentle raindrops on roofs, windshields, and windowpanes create a pleasing rhythm. Storms have beauty in the zigzag flashes of lightning that play around in the sky.

Regardless of what form, water gives of itself so that life around it can survive. It brings renewal.

As water brings life to all it touches, so God in our lives transforms us. If we are open to God's use, His ancient melody can flow through us.

Prayer: Lord, let Your ancient melodies flow through us renewing our parched and wilted spirits. Amen.
