Ecclesiastes 3:1 – There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven. (NASB)

Last summer, the weather was very rare for our part of Canada. We set record highs a few days in a row. The temperature was often over 30 degrees Celsius. One day, I saw on the weather network that it was to remain hot all week. Then on Saturday, the high was to be 9 degrees Celsius. That would feel like winter after being so hot for so long. Then it was to get really hot again. What changes! And so quickly!

We have changes in our lives as well. Some do come quickly — like the death of a close relative, or a sickness that occurs suddenly, or our children deciding to move out, leaving the empty nest for us to deal with. Other changes are slower — like cancer gradually affecting our bodies year after year, or our children growing and becoming more independent as each day passes.

Psalm 37:7a – Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him. (NASB)

Psalm 100:1-5 – Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth. Serve the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful singing. Know that the Lord Himself is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people and the sheep of His pasture. Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him; bless His name. For the Lord is good; His lovingkindness is everlasting, and His faithfulness to all generations. (NASB)

Change is inevitable. Some change is good and welcomed. Some change is hard to accept. How do we deal with it? We rest in the Lord. We shout joyfully to the Lord. We trust that He has made us. We trust that we are His. We give thanks. We trust that the Lord is good. We trust that His lovingkindness is everlasting and that He is faithful.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, we don't like change. On the whole, we resist change — whether it comes slowly or quickly. Help us to trust You completely in the times of change in our lives. Thank You. Amen.
