I am in the process of recovering from surgery. The instructions upon discharge from the hospital were quite simple, or so I thought: no driving, no laundry, no vacuuming, and no heavy lifting for six weeks. I am pleased to share that the first week went well, but then the novelty wore off, and dust and dirt began to settle upon the house. Granted, my husband and boys were great, but they didn't seem to see the dust the same as I do.

Then came the phone call from a friend from church who wanted to visit and do any jobs for me that I wanted doing. I accepted the offer for the visit, and I figured I could curb the offer to help with any jobs. Wrong, wrong, wrong!

The Lord spoke to me between the time of her phone call and the visit. He reminded me of a seminar that I had attended only a few weeks before. At that seminar, I had heard that to refuse help from others is a pride issue.

Proverbs 29:23 – A man's pride will bring him low, but the humble in spirit will retain honour. (NKJV)

We had a great visit, and yes, she did some vacuuming for me as we visited. Though it was hard for me to accept, I must admit that it was a blessing — and a humbling experience. I know, too, that she was also blessed in being able to do something for us.

Prayer: Dear Jesus, help us to live our lives to the fullest by abiding in all that You have shared with us through Your Word, the Bible. Help us to respond quickly and in obedience to Your prompting of us in our fleshly ways, so that we can honour You and ourselves and others in our lives. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
