Psalm 51:10 – Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. (NKJV)

Days after our visit to a friend's new home, I kept remembering the ways the couple had made us feel welcome. When we arrived, besides the hugs and warm greetings, we noted, cooling on the counter, freshly baked bread, which the homemaker quickly turned into a selection of delicious sandwiches to offer us with our tea. But added to these scenes was one that doesn't usually happen when one is entertaining adult guests. When the host was asked a question, in response, he left his chair quickly and knelt on the floor in front of his guests while he patiently explained the solution to the problem. "Take a strong detergent on a wet cloth." Our host was reading the care instructions on the back of his white wool carpet. The instructions told how to remove a stain from the white rug.

This scene reminds me of another — that of a world filled with people who are wearing the stain of sin. I believe that in order to help them find the right solution for the removal of this stain, we need to humble ourselves before God and re-read the instructions found in God's Word, the Bible, on how these stains are to be removed. The Bible teaches that the blemishes on our lives are caused by our carelessness and our sin. But the stain of sin can be removed when we ask for God's forgiveness and turn from our waywardness. When we allow God to work on our lives, He will remove the stains and make our lives pure white in His eyes.

Isaiah 1:18 – "Come now, let us reason together," says the Lord. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool." (NIV)

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help us to allow You to work in our lives today. Amen.
