Philippians 4:19 – But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. (KJV)

As secretary to the school principal, I was the only clerical employee, so I was allowed to join the teachers in their staff room. The incident I relate happened many years ago, when it was permissible for children to be taught religion as part of the school curriculum. Apparently a lower-grade teacher had been teaching the lesson of baby Moses, and she told about the order given that all male infants were to be killed. To use her own words, she was "waxing eloquently", when one little boy could bear it no longer. He jumped to his feet and shouted, "Send for the Mounties! Send for the Mounties!" (referring to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police). Needless to mention, the whole room just rocked with laughter.

Down through the years, I have often thought about that little boy. He did not know what to do, and he had little influence of his own, but he knew where to obtain help. What profession did he pursue? Did he become one of his greatly admired men in their scarlet tunics, helping to keep law and order? I shall never know, but I hope he has had the same courage to express his concerns and perhaps make a difference in his world.

Sometimes we Christians are faced with difficult situations, and like the little boy, we often do not have the answers for ourselves, or perhaps for others, but whatever the situation, we do know where to obtain help. We can go to our heavenly Father and claim the promise, "My God shall supply all your need." Whether spiritual or tangible — indeed for the complete coverage of need — He will be there to help us.

Prayer: Dear heavenly Father, we thank You for the openness and courage of little children. May we, Your children, have the same courage to advocate Christian standards in the world in which we live. We ask this petition in the name of Your Son and our Saviour, Christ Jesus. Amen.
