Psalm 32:8 – I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you. (NIV)

Driving through strange cities usually keeps me on edge, since I have a poor sense of direction. Coming home through Quesnel, a small city in central British Columbia, Canada, I was watching for the familiar turn.

A very clear voice said, "Go into the right hand lane and take the next right turn." With the windows closed and the air-conditioner fan whirring, a voice sounding that clear must have come from a police or emergency loud-speaker, so of course I followed the directions.

This took me into a part of the city unfamiliar to me. I couldn't go a block and turn left to get back onto the highway. Probably a one-way street stopped me. Fortunately I knew that the highway goes past the hospital, which is a fairly tall structure, so by directing the car toward the hospital, I got back to the road I needed to be on.

Further on, I realized that my CB radio was on, and the vehicle that was in the block ahead of me earlier was a logging truck. Obviously a new driver was getting directions to the mill. The clear directions were not meant for me at all!

So it is in life: so many voices. We need to focus on Jesus, the name above all names, to find our way.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for Your voice which directs and instructs us through Your word. Help us to listen and be aware of Your word to us. In Jesus' name we ask this. Amen.
