Galatians 2:21 – I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing! (NIV)

Years ago, I participated in a small group which took place during the summer at Montreat College, North Carolina. Young people from across the United States had gathered for a conference which was meant to inspire their faith and encourage their walk with God.

At one of the meetings, some young people were expressing their views. They said that all types of faith led to the same thing, and that God could be approached through all the different rituals, prayers, and beliefs of the other world religions. Most of the young people in the group appeared to agree with these sentiments, because they inwardly believed in a one-world, one-faith, and one-God society. This troubled me, so I asked them these questions:

"If all the other religions in the world have been given direct access to God, then why did Jesus have to be crucified? If all religions have the answer to eternal salvation, then did Jesus die for nothing?" The room became quiet, and the meeting soon ended after my questions.

Years later, I went back to the same summer conference and met a group leader who told me, "You don't remember me, but I remember you. When you said that Jesus died for nothing if all religions are the same, it made me reconsider my Christian faith. I'm now a youth leader at my church, and I'm here to let other young people know why Christ's death is so important and why Christianity is so different from all other religions."

If we let go of Christ, we let go of everything that He died for. Our faith is unique. His sacrifice is the most important singular act of salvation in the world. To believe anything else is to diminish His death. To equate any other religion with our own is to say He died for absolutely nothing.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, You are the only One who can forgive our sins, restore us to God, and reclaim us for His kingdom. There is no other name under heaven given to us by which we must be saved. Keep us loyal to You, and help us never to take You for granted. In Your holy name, we pray. Amen.
