2 John 1:6 – And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love. (NIV)

Years ago, I wrote a song called "Sacred Dancer" that our church band, Glenfinnan, still plays today. I wrote it for a gospel singing group in Scotland, but they didn't like the lyrics. They thought that it was too New Age-ish, and could be used to describe any pagan god or heathen deity. So I changed the lyrics to reflect Christ's presence in the song. They still didn't like it, so I put it down to experience. Secretly though, I think they didn't like having Jesus connected to the word "dancing".

Anyway, we still play the song today, and it's a great favourite of the band and the people who hear us. They get the connection of life being a dance in which Christ takes the lead, especially when we sing the refrain of the song:

Dancing round and round in circles,
Watch His footsteps, one by one.
Where Christ leads me, I will follow,
'Til my dancing days are done.

When the apostle John was writing his second letter, he connected with his readers in a similar way. He wrote about our Christian faith being a "walk in love". It describes a journey, taken step by step and day by day, of being in love with the Lord and one another. I like to think that this is John's way of expressing "dancing with Jesus", for how could one walk in love with Christ and not skip, leap, or dance along the way?

So today, our challenge is to walk in Christ's love, letting our hearts dance joyfully wherever He leads us and in all that we seek to do for Him.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, we want to live our lives filled with Your love. We want to bless others with this bliss, so help us today to walk cheerfully in Your love and dance happily to Your directions. In Your holy name, we pray. Amen.
