All right! I confess! As a child, I used to hide turnip by smushing it into any leftover gravy on my plate. Since my plate looked to be clear of the stuff, I qualified for dessert! It didn't take my mom long to catch on, though. (She knew that I liked gravy too much to leave it on my plate.)

While I eat most everything now, it took some doing for me to develop any liking for bitter-tasting items like mustard, watercress, turnip, horseradish, broccoli, and cabbage. However, as my taste buds grew, I learned to appreciate them (though not in large amounts!)

I was delighted to learn that in the life-cycle of these same bitter vegetables, they form flowers in the shape of a cross — and thus their name: "cruciferous". Just think of it: the cross — evident even in the food we eat.

God promised that His creation would clearly show us Himself. Those bitter cruciferous veggies are one more symbol of our eternal God keeping His word.

Turnip or broccoli, anyone?

Prayer: Amazing, unchanging God, thanks for the reminder that Your Word is indeed truth. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
