Never one for cold, my dad, Floyd Treanor, describes a Manitoba winter in his book, "Two Years North of 53 Degrees":

We got a fire going and sat around getting warm. I said, "Do you fellows take your clothes off when going to bed?"

My brother-in-law, Mindi, said, "You had better leave them on tonight and see how you make out." They made a bed for me with a mattress on top of some fish boxes. When I saw them pull their socks over their heads, I knew I was in trouble.

My dad had a new definition for the word cold!

God called the Laodicean Church "lukewarm" (that is, neither hot nor cold). They were so content with material wealth that they had no idea that they were spiritually poor.

What about us? What is our temperature? If we are cold toward God, let us at least own up to that and confess that our feelings for Him are in the deep-freeze. If we are lollygagging around at the halfway mark, let's be honest and admit that lukewarm doesn't even make a good cup of tea, let alone worship.

Prayer: God, You are always very clear, today even painfully so. Help us to check our temperature gauge and then make the appropriate adjustments in Your favour! In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
