During the week, I have many little people coming and going — sometimes daily. What a blessing they are!

I have a church ornament I put out only at Christmas time. The candle glowing in it shows the beautiful painted window panes. In front of the church, I place a small nativity set. The younger children love playing with Mary, Joseph, the wise men, and especially baby Jesus lying in a manger.

The other day, one little visitor was playing with them. Sometimes they were all in the church; sometimes only Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus were in the church; sometimes they were all outside looking at the church. I loved watching her play with them.

After a short while, she ran and put baby Jesus in a closet in the hallway. She informed me that "He has to stay there till Christmas Day 'cause that is His birthday." Then she snuggled up on my lap and asked me questions — many questions. We talked about Jesus being in heaven; we talked about Jesus being everywhere as well; we talked about Jesus being in my heart because I asked Him to come in. It was such a delightful time together. Afterwards, she jumped down, ran and got baby Jesus, and put him back in his rightful place with Mary and Joseph.

I have done some serious thinking about that since then. When we ask Jesus into our hearts to forgive us of our sin and be Lord and Saviour of our lives, He is in the spot where He longs to be. It is His rightful spot — on the throne of our hearts. Do we always leave Him there or do we hide Him in some closet, waiting for an opportune time to let Him out? Are those opportune times on Sundays? Are those times when we want to impress someone whom we perceive to be more spiritual than ourselves?

This Christmas season, let's focus on the Christ of Christmas and let His love shine through us to others. Let's leave Him in His rightful spot on the throne of our hearts.

Prayer: Thank You for this time of year that we remember Your birth. Thank You for coming to earth as a babe. Help us to focus on You this season. Help us not to hide You in a closet but to leave You in Your rightful spot in our lives. Amen.
