Matthew 28:19-20 – Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age. (NLT)

Recently, I was expecting an international student to arrive here in Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada. Before she came, she e-mailed me, so I would know what day to be at the airport, what time to be there, and the number of the flight on which she was due to arrive.

While I was waiting for the passengers to enter the terminal, I saw a mother and daughter come through the doors. They had been on a journey, and were obviously glad to be home. The mother's eyes searched the crowd, found her husband, and fastened on him who came over and hugged and kissed her tenderly. Then he immediately hugged his daughter, as his wife's eyes also turned to the daughter. I'm sure they were all anxious to see each other.

I thought about the day when we arrive in heaven. Our eyes will be fastened on Jesus, and He will be waiting for us. He knows our arrival day, our arrival time, and our flight number. He will welcome us home. I wonder if He'll be looking to see if we brought anyone with us, like the husband looked for his daughter. The event at the air terminal made tears come to my eyes — especially when I thought about the eternal picture.

Will we bring others with us to heaven? Will we bring our children to heaven? Our grandchildren? Our neighbours? Our friends? It is a sobering thought.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, You have told us to go and make disciples. Yet so often, when You nudge us to talk to others about You, we push the thought aside. Often we are filled with fear. Your Word says that You have "not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline". (2 Timothy 1:7 NLT) Please help us. Thank You. Amen.
