Ezekiel 3:3 – And he said to me, "Son of man, feed your stomach, and fill your body with this scroll which I am giving you." Then I ate it and it was sweet as honey in my mouth. (NASB)

What kitchen product will never go bad? That's the question our local radio station asked. (Here is a hint! The answer isn't transfat, hydrogenated, artificially flavoured cookies!)

The answer? It's honey! Apparently honey has a natural preservative, and it never spoils. It may crystallize, but a few seconds in the microwave and honey returns to its original, spreadable state.

I took the announcer at his word and hauled out the frizzled jar of honey in the back of my cupboard. Sure enough, a few seconds of heat and the unpalatable was once again desirable.

Like honey, the Bible will never go bad. It is our preservative. Whenever a particular passage seems to have crystallized and seems too hard to swallow, God can warm our hearts and make those words to be sweet as honey in our mouth.

Psalm 119:105 – Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. (NRSV)

Prayer: Lord, in our human selves, we would like all of your Word to be soft, sweet, and easy to swallow. When the seemingly hard, crystallized bits show up in our daily Bible readings, give us the courage to let You warm our hearts into obedience. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
