Hebrews 13:8 – Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. (KJV)

A couple of months ago, it was necessary for me to change Internet service providers. This was not an easy decision, as I had been with the one I was leaving since getting my first computer seven-and-a-half years previously.

It wasn't a quick or easy decision, and I experienced some pangs of separation. The technical support staff had always been kind and patient. However, they had limited hours during the week — with no service from 5 p.m. Saturday until 8 a.m. Monday. This, and a couple of other things, finally tipped the scales in favour of my present provider.

After I let those in my e-mail address book know of my new address, one friend wrote that she'd so liked my previous address of mdaniel@islandnet.com. It had a flair, a uniqueness, which my rather ordinary plain old new one of md61@telus.net did not. Several asked what the "61" stood for: was it my age, or something of some other significance?

Because both my first and last names are rather common, in addition to the set-up, a fair amount of time was spent trying to come up with an appropriate address, and tiredly, I finally accepted "md61" — which I believe meant I was the 61st "md" to be registered.

It wasn't until several days later it hit me that it was part of my home address.

One friend said, "Well, what's in a name, anyways?" to which I responded, "Not much, I guess, unless your name is Jesus Christ."

Of course, names of movie stars, politicians, world leaders, great historians, musicians, poets, authors, and the like are recognizable.

Some live on through centuries. Others do not. But no matter one's belief system, none stays so stable nor has the impact of that of Jesus Christ.

None is so constant, so reassuring, so powerful, or still so "alive" as that of Jesus Christ.

None is the same yesterday, today, and forever as is Jesus Christ.

Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for Your open invitation to let You be a constant in our lives. As we move about the activities of our everyday lives, may we take a moment to give pause to what is in the name of Jesus Christ. Through You we pray. Amen.
