Leviticus 5:5 – When you are guilty, immediately confess the sin that you've committed. (MSG)

There are a few advantages to not having a dishwasher. I get plenty of time to think as I slow down to face the sink and the growing mound of dishes it holds. I get a feeling of accomplishment as I move the dishes from the unwashed pile through to the dish drainer. I have had many great conversations with our children as we have washed and rinsed together.

Unfortunately, sometimes my unclean dishes set too long. Life gets busy, and the sink gets full. Some of the food items really get stuck on the dishes. Oatmeal and some cereals could be used to caulk cracks in houses when left long enough! When this happens, I need to let the dishes soak in the warm, soapy water. Eventually, I can wipe those dishes clean with just a swipe of the dishcloth.

Sin can be like those unclean dishes. A little does not seem so bad. We can take care of it tomorrow. However, the longer we let it sit, the worse we feel and the harder it is to admit. Sometimes we need to ask forgiveness from others. Often we need to confess to God.

God is so good. He knows we have messed up. After spending some time in prayer and devotions, He lovingly wipes our hearts clean, and we can move on with a fresh start.

Psalm 103:11-13 – For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him. (NIV)

Prayer: God, thank You for being so willing to be our heart and soul washer. You sent Your Son to die so that sin would never keep us from You. Give us the strength to confess and seek forgiveness when we feel we are drifting from You. Help us to remember that when we confess our sin, You truly forgive us and do not hold it against us. Amen.
