Hebrews 6:19-20 – This certain hope of being saved is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls, connecting us with God himself behind the sacred curtains of heaven, where Christ has gone ahead to plead for us from his position as high priest, with the honour and rank of Melchizedek. (TLB)

A huge anchor is cast in stone in a park on the corner of Old Yonge Street and Doane Road, just north of Toronto, Ontario.

The sign beside it says:

The Holland Landing Anchor
Forged in England for a warship on the upper lakes, the anchor was drawn here from Kingston in 1815 by oxen. By the time of its arrival here, the war of 1812 had ended and the anchor was abandoned on sleighs at Soldier's Bay. In 1820 it was brought to this site. Weight 4000 pounds.

One of my husband's ancestors drove one of the oxen teams that brought this anchor to its final resting place. The family cherishes that memory and has even held reunions there.

While this anchor missed its real calling, the strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls, Jesus, did not! The Son of God, He was born to die on a cross and pay the price for our sin. He rose from the dead and lives right now as our personal intercessor.

Many of us have fond family memories about God. Let's make a brand new one, one that puts us into eternal relationship with Him. It's just a matter of asking His forgiveness.

Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, You are the anchor that keeps our souls. In the midst of life's storms, we will always find our hope, our forgiveness, and our security in You. In Jesus' name. Amen.
