1 Timothy 2:5-6 – For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all men — the testimony given in its proper time. (NIV)

When I was a child, I lived in what was known locally as "the forks of the river". In order to go into town, we had to travel a dirt road and cross the river over an iron bridge. As progress came, the road was eventually paved and a concrete bridge built, replacing the outdated iron bridge. Now, in the twenty-first century, another bridge has been built beside the first one, and there are now four lanes of traffic crossing the river at this point.

I am often reminded of our need for bridges to connect us with other areas. Unless these bridges have strong foundations, they will not support the traffic that passes over them. In the same way, we need to build our lives on the foundation of Christ, that we may be strong enough to support the loads we are asked to carry and to stay connected with the source.

John 14:6 – Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (NIV)

Just as there was no way for me as a child to get out of my "forks in the river" except to cross the iron bridge, there is no way for us today to find eternal life except through Jesus Christ. He is our only link to eternity.

Prayer: Lord, help us to understand that there are no other roads leading to eternal life except the one You created. Amen.
