Daniel 3:28 – Then Nebuchadnezzar said, "Praise be to the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who has sent his angel and rescued his servants! They trusted in him and defied the king's command and were willing to give up their lives rather than serve or worship any god except their own God." (NIV)

Unfortunately, I didn't have enough brothers available to re-enact the scene of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego when they were in the fiery furnace, but I do remember telling the story to my brothers and their friends in the Bible club I formed when I was nine or ten. Back then, I wanted to be a missionary, and the only way I knew how to be one was to invite all the kids in my neighbourhood to the Buttercup Club where I'd tell them Bible stories. (I think I named the club after the cow that belonged to the farmer next door.)

The end of the story is the same now as it was then. When mean old King Nebuchadnezzar looked into the furnace, he was startled. He said, "Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods." The Lord had protected the three young men. They had stood for God, and they had not been harmed. As Christians, our prayer should be that when we go through the testing times in life, others will see that God is with us.

Prayer: Dear God, may others always be able to see You in our lives. Keep us in Your care. Amen.
