1 Corinthians 2:10 – But God has revealed it to us by His Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. (NIV)

Romans 15:4 – For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. (NIV)

Today we hear more about mentors than about the leading of the Spirit through the written Word. We have all probably had our mentors who guided us as we grew. For many, it was a writer. Eugenia Price was my spiritual mentor. I read all her books, and gleaned many important truths from her writings, but eventually I turned to the Bible. There I found these truths for myself — revealed to me by the Spirit of the Scriptures. Then they became my truths, not those of Eugenia Price. What I learned from her was head truth. What I found in the Bible was heart truth. We must experience this knowledge for ourselves.

In my Bible study, I have come across Scriptures that I've read all my life, but which now literally jump off the page at me, and I see the meaning in a completely different way. There is no substitute for personal Bible study. Mentors are great. I owe Eugenia Price so much for what she taught me through her writings. But in order to make it mine, I had to open up the Book and read.

If we give God the opportunity, He will reveal to us the hidden treasures from His storehouse of knowledge. His Spirit will search out the deep things of God, and help us to see things in ways that are beneficial to our needs.

Prayer: Lord, we thank You for Your wisdom that has been hidden, but which You destined for our glory before time began. Even though our mentors can sow Your seed, we thank You that we can search Your Book for the answers to our needs. Amen.
