Romans 12:6 – We all have different gifts that God has given to us by His loving. We are to use them. If someone has the gift of preaching the Good News, he should preach. He should use the faith God has given him. (NLV)

I have always dreamed of being a writer, but God gave me a home and a family, and the necessity of working to support them in the style I desired. The years went by, but the dream still lingered. I asked God to use me to spread His Word. The fact that He accepted my offer is evident in the words you are reading now. He did not say, "Get a Master's degree" and write perfectly for me. He said, "He should use the faith God has given him." (Romans 12:6b, NLV)

I have experienced and lived many other dreams — dreams of marriage, of having children, a career, and a home in a good community. I have been a part of a good church family. I will never be a great writer, but I have taught the Word to my own children, and to many other children in my church family.

We all have dreams that have died, or have not yet come true. We cannot turn around and go backwards to find these dreams. God's miracles have always happened when things looked impossible. The Jordan River did not stop flowing until Joshua and the Israelites stepped into the water. Abraham and Sarah, and Zechariah and Elizabeth waited until far-advanced ages before their dreams of a son were met. Joseph dreamed that someday his brothers would bow down to him. They did. Through their bowing, God was able to bless them, and to bless Joseph.

As committed Christians, we have to believe that God is using us according to His plans and our best interests.

Prayer: Father, You may not always use us in the manner we wish, but You do use us according to the gifts You have given us. You know which dreams are best for us, and how we may best do Your work. Use us, Lord, accordingly. Amen.
