I like my food — not that it is an obsession.

The other day I sat down to eat pudding that I had taken from the fridge for my dessert. It was one of those bought creme caramels that are ubiquitous in the supermarkets in England. As I started to eat it, I noticed that it was more tasty than usual, as I could detect the caramel flavour coming through the custard filling.

Normally, I buy the value version, a cheap and tasteless variety at the superstore, all colour and no flavour, but it passes as food. On this occasion, though, I must have not been concentrating on what I was doing while shopping, because I bought the better own-label version of the same product that was put in the place of the value product normally on the shelf.

As I looked at the pull-off label, I noticed its different colour, and then I realised my mistake. In all other aspects, it looked exactly the same.

I began to think about how we compare, as Christians, to those around us. Yes, we all look the same, maybe a different colour, but the question I ask myself is this: as I interact with those I meet during the day, do I have the aroma of Jesus about me? Or, on the other hand, am I just all colouring and packaging with not a hint of the true God in me?

Are we made with the "good stuff" today, or have we settled for something less, being all form, and of no godly substance, costing less?

I believe God wants us all to be full of the kingdom flavour today, right down to the very last bit.

Prayer: Lord, we ask, in the name of Jesus, do not take offence at our meanderings as we travel, but rather instil a new spirit in us, to keep us centred in You. We rejoice that Your Holy Spirit presence makes a difference to how we value the world and ourselves. Let our lives be full of the flavour of Jesus wherever we find ourselves by Your grace today. Amen.
