Exodus 4:10 – And Moses said unto the Lord, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech and of a slow tongue. (KJV)

It was September already, and the curling season was fast approaching. While I had enjoyed this sport in the past, I was now having my doubts. I was a year older, I had gained some extra pounds while vacationing in Atlantic Canada, the arthritis in my knee seemed worse, and I had muscle spasms in my shoulder. Did I ever have doubts! I seemed to be filled with fears of inadequacy.

Then it hit me! I was having a "Moses Moment". When I had prayed about it, I knew that God wanted me to try curling again, but I was experiencing the same kinds of fears and doubts that Moses did when God called him to go back to Egypt and lead out the Israelites. He protested, "Who am I that I should go? What if they do not believe me or listen to me? O Lord, please send someone else to do it."

But God told Moses, "I will be with you."

What I learned is that God is with us, despite our fears and doubts, whether it is an activity like curling that I wanted to try again, or a ministry that God calls us to. Do you ever have a "Moses Moment" when your boss asks you to undertake a task at work, or your pastor asks you to do something for your church?

I went to the curling rink and thoroughly enjoyed the opening game. My knee was fine, my shoulder didn't hurt, and, while I will never be playing in the Briar Championship, I realized the importance of the friendship and camaraderie of the other players. My feelings of inadequacy disappeared as I threw the first rock.

I feel embarrassed because I have had "Moses Moments" where I feared the challenges ahead of me. I should have realized that those feelings are merely part of the preparation, and they help us to trust God's promise that when He calls us to do a task, He will be with us and provide what we need.

Prayer: Thank You, Lord, that You are our strength and song, and You will be with us in all situations — today and forevermore. Amen.
