Philippians 1:3 – I thank my God every time I remember you. (NIV)

At my mother-in-law's funeral, several of the guests were puzzled about her connection to the stringy, long-haired couple dressed in black, wearing matching leather jackets and metal jewellery.

"That couple over there — are they in the wrong funeral parlour?" a guest whispered, nodding at the young people in the black leather jackets behind them.

"They're local stars in a rock band," another explained.

"What would that elderly woman have had in common with rock stars?" the first guest exclaimed.

My husband, not knowing what to say, but sensing he should say something by way of greeting, offered his outstretched hand in a handshake, and said simply, "Thanks for coming."

"Oh! You're welcome. We saw her obituary, and we wanted to come. You see, we met her when she visited my mother during her illness. Every time she came to the house to visit mom, she brought us our own batch of shortbread and cookies. Imagine it, a sweet little old lady baking us cookies. We'll never forget her."

At our funeral, how will we be remembered? Will we be remembered for our godly lives, and for the acts of kindness that we have done for others?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help us to look for acts of kindness that we can do for others. May our prayer be that our lives will be a testimony of Your love for us. Amen.
