Isaiah 48:17 – This is what the Lord says — your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: "I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go." (NIV)

Living in British Columbia, Canada, we now have a graduated system for driver licensing. When someone wants to learn to drive a car, they must first pass their written test to get their "L", which is their learner's permit. Their learner's permit allows them to do most things, but they must have their "L" displayed in their back window and they must have a co-pilot with them who has their full license. The next step is to pass another test so that one can trade the "L" for an "N", which means one is identified as a new driver. A co-pilot is no longer needed. Finally, one takes another test, and, if successful, one can get rid of the "N" and join the ranks of other drivers.

As I was reflecting on this system of licensing and thinking about how our Christian lives are like a spiritual journey, I was thinking that as Christians we are driving with an "L". As we drive through life, we really need God to be our co-pilot. We need to listen to where God wants us to go and we need to follow the rules that we find in God's Word, in order to successfully drive down the pathway of life.

Today, as we reflect on where we are going in our lives, let us ask ourselves, "Who is our co-pilot?" Have we stopped to ask our co-pilot, or to listen to where our co-pilot wants us to go? Remember today's Scripture: "I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go."

Prayer: Thank You, Lord, that You are always with us. Thank You that You are there to guide and direct us through the sometimes-confusing paths in life. Help us, especially today, to listen for Your guidance in the way You want us to go. In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
