Deuteronomy 12:28 – Be careful to obey all my commands so that all will go well with you and your children, because you will be doing what pleases the Lord your God. (NLT)

Jeremiah 29:11 – "For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. (NLT)

I remember sitting on the grass at football practice at Middle Georgia College, watching the Warriors go through their daily runs and drills. They were preparing for their next game. I watched as the coaches worked with their specific positions. From the expressions of frustration on some of the faces, and the tones of exasperation in some voices, it was pretty easy to tell that practice was not going well. My heart went out to the players, for they had been working pretty hard. They were struggling with one play. The quarterback was putting his own twist or style in the play. He was questioning the coach's decisions and instructions.

It was getting near the time to end the practice, when the head coach decided to run the play one more time. The coach whispered to the quarterback, and said something to his wide receiver. The ball was snapped, and the play ensued. The wide receiver ended up in the end zone with the ball still in his hands. It had finally worked! There were cheers, catcalls, whoops, and lots of frowns turned upside down. What had made it work? The players had listened to their coach, paid attention, and followed the steps in the play.

Our playbook as Christians is in black and white, with some red writing here and there. It is the Bible. The rules are there. They are called the Ten Commandments. Many have analyzed the Commandments, and they try to put their own spin on them. It is pretty simple. God said to do it this way, not that way. If we do obey God, we are promised great things, as He states in today's Scripture from Jeremiah.

Prayer: Lord, we thank You for giving us the Commandments to follow. Keep us on track with what You would have us do. Thank You, Lord, for all the opportunities You do give us. Amen.
