Psalm 139:23-24 – Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. (NIV)

In a hurry, I took time I shouldn't have, just before going out for the afternoon. I had decided to mop the floors, just in case we brought a guest home with us. As I hurriedly did this, I was approaching the side door that led to the garage. The door opened, and in walked my husband.

"What on earth are you doing? We need to get going or we will be late." I looked up at him, and then down to the small pile of crumbs and dirt that had collected on my mop. I didn't have time to get the vacuum out and finish the job, and, as I looked into my husband's eyes, he smiled and said, "Put them under the carpet."

Well, I did. Today, as I was doing a thorough housecleaning, I lifted the carpet, and there was the dirt I had hidden there.

My thoughts changed as I vacuumed up the dirt, and proceeded to wash the tiles under where the carpet lay. I thought of the sin we sometimes try to hide from God. We never really hide it from Him, for He knows our hearts, and nothing escapes Him. We might tend to forget, but, one day, the sins we try to hide will catch up with us. We have been given, through Christ, a way in which to be cleansed from our sin.

1 John 1:9 – If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (NIV)

May we never be tempted to try to sweep away our sins under the carpet, so to speak, for, one day, they will be revealed, and we will be held accountable for them. Thank God that we have been saved from all sin by the blood of Jesus Christ.

Prayer: Dear Lord, as we hurry in our busy lives, let not our sins be forgotten. Help us to deal with them when they happen, and help us not to try to hide them from You. In our hearts, we know that You know each one of us. In coming to You and simply asking for forgiveness, we are forgiven. Thank You, Jesus. We pray in Your name. Amen.
