Psalm 27:5 – For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle and set me high upon a rock. (NIV)

After the birth of our first child, I had a longing to share her with members of my family. However, my parents lived in the northwest, and the trip from the east coast wasn't financially possible at that time. The next best thing was to plan a trip to visit my grandmother on my home island, Grand Manan.

I'd never flown in a small plane before, and was a bit nervous, but, just before landing, my anxiety turned to horror, as I held my precious daughter, and watched the pilot set a course directly into the 300-foot cliffs on the north side of the island. With the sea churning below us, and the cliffs looming straight ahead, I had to remind myself to have faith in the pilot. Sure enough, the pilot of the Cessna knew that the updrafts would lift the plane up to the runway built on the top of the cliff. In a few minutes I was able to set my feet on dry land, for the pilot knew the way to bring us safely to our destination.

In life, there are times when the things we are facing seem to be as formidable as the cliff. It's during these times that we need to have faith in Jesus, our pilot. He knows the way to bring us to safety, to bring us home to the reunion with the family of God.

Prayer: Remind us, dear Jesus, that You are our pilot. Help us to place our trust in You. Thank You for bringing us safely home. Amen.
