Exodus 31:18 – And He gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God. (KJV)

Exodus 32:16 – The tables were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, graven upon the tables. (NIV)

As soon as I saw the little creature staring at me, I knew I was gone. Cute as a button, white as could be, with a little streak of black on its head, it was mewing.

My heart ached as I carried the creature into my apartment. Instantly, Millie and Lucky were taken over by curiosity. Lucky is deaf, so she didn't realize what it was until I held it to her face, and Millie, well, Millie's ears perked up straight as soon as the kitty made its first squeal. I live on the University of West Alabama campus. Even though our apartments are not technically dorms, we do have to follow the same guidelines as dorm residents do. Our housing director, who happens to be my boss, reminded me that residents of my apartment complex are allowed two cats. He gave me two weeks to find the kitty a new home. My emotions overtook my common sense for a minute. I can remember wondering why in the world the rules were that strict.

Why did God give Moses the Ten Commandments? God gave us the Ten Commandments for our good. When He created Adam and Eve, He created them in His own image — they knew God and His will, and they were righteous and holy. The Commandments of God are good and right. In fact, the Commandments teach us God's will for our lives, and warn us of those things that will bring temporary or permanent harm to our bodies and souls.

Romans 7:10-12 – The commandment, which was to bring life, I found to bring death. For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it killed me. Therefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good. (NIV)

Prayer: Thank you, Father, for giving us rules, the Ten Commandments, to follow. Lord, it is so good to know that, through the following of these laws, we will receive your promises and blessings. Amen.
