Talking with my father-in-law about his surname, which I took when I married his son, he told me that a "killick" is an anchor. Since our conversation, I've been thinking about what "anchor" means. It means "hope". My hope is in God. I have faith that God will do what He says and what He promised. What I hope for is not physically seen. Hope makes God's grace and glory real to me, by my faith. I know He will see me through whatever trials I may encounter.

Hebrews 6:19 – This confidence is like a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain of heaven into God's inner sanctuary. (NLT)

We have hope and confidence of eternity with Christ. We will continue to live after dying from this world. We'll continue to ask to be saturated by the Holy Spirit.

As an anchor digs firmly into the sea floor, we continue to hold on firmly to the Word and let others know, just like the words of one of my many favourite choruses:

We have an anchor that keeps the soul
Steadfast and sure while the billows roll;
Fastened to the rock which cannot move,
Grounded firm and deep in the Saviour's love.

Hope is one thing in life we cannot do without.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, may we ever be aware of Your abounding love for us, certain that while we go through the storms of life, we can rest assured of Your hand upon us. Help us as we pass Your message on to others. Please give us the strength necessary to maintain hope, that we may overflow with it, by the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
