Psalm 24:1 – The world and all that is in it belong to the Lord. (GNB)

Several years ago, we visited friends in the small cottage town of Port Stanley, Ontario, Canada. It was late summer, and most of the tourists had returned to work or school. The sandy beach stretched before us, and it seemed we were alone with God.

We were not alone in God's world, however. It was time for the monarch butterflies to migrate. Everywhere we looked, we could see them. Some were low, flitting at eye level. Others were flying just above reach, and some were so high in the air that they seemed to be only dark specks. The sky was filling with gently floating orange and black confetti.

What an awesome sight! The migrating patterns of the monarchs are still a mystery to science. No one knows exactly where they travel in their journey to find warmth, or what triggers them to start their flight. Scientists are now tagging butterflies, so they can track them.

Perhaps we will never know. Some of God's mysteries are meant to be mysteries. It is enough just to know that He has created them.

Psalm 19:1,3-4 – How clearly the sky reveals God's glory! No speech or words are used, no sound is heard; yet the message goes out to all the world and is heard to the ends of the earth. (GNB)

Prayer: Heavenly Father, You have created a marvellous world for us. Help us to recognize You in all the little things around us. In every tree, every flower, every creature, and in every heart, You are revealed. Open our eyes, so we can see You. Amen.
