Luke 8:15 – The seeds that fell in good soil stand for those who hear the message and retain it in a good and obedient heart, and they persist until they bear fruit. (GNB)

I spent the day today weeding my garden. It is a never-ending task. It seems that as soon as the job is finished, I have to start over. There are dandelions, bindweed, buckhorn, clover, quack grass, creeping charlie, and many others I don't have names for. They seem to pop up everywhere when I'm not looking.

Sometimes a seed will sprout where it was dropped accidentally. I also have plants that grow from the composted material we use to fertilize the garden. Although these are technically "weeds", since they weren't sown deliberately, they are often the strongest plants and bear the most fruit.

In our lives, the love of God can be spread in similar ways. For example, a word of testimony given intentionally can easily be rebuffed. Those needing it most might turn a deaf ear to an expression of faith. However, faith shown through example can often take root in unexpected places. And although we may never see that seed planted, it can grow and thrive, nurtured by the shining rays of the Son.

Luke 8:8 – And some seeds fell in good soil; the plants grew and bore grain, one hundred grains each. (GNB)

Prayer: Lord, You have taught us to share Your love with those around us. May we spread Your message everywhere we go. Let Your love be the seed, and let us be the planters, so that others may grow to love You. Amen.
