Matthew 26:27-28 – Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins." (NIV)

We are approaching the Easter season. It always brings to mind our trip to Israel, where we walked in the footsteps of Jesus, from Palm Sunday to the Passover, the last time Jesus would partake of supper with his disciples. He longed to be with them this night, to have one more time to recline together at supper and to have fellowship with them.

According to today's scripture, in an upper room, He took the cup, gave thanks, and offered it to them, to drink what He called his blood of the covenant, which was poured out for us for the forgiveness of our sins.

We went to an upper room like that, where there was a re-enactment of the Last Supper. We sat on the rugs that covered the floor, as the men reclined, leaning against one another. We had a stew made from lamb, and there were almonds and dried apricots set on the table along with bread and wine.

I shall never forget it, nor shall I ever forget what our Saviour did for us in the days to follow, when He came to the cross at Calvary, there to die and to take the cup of sin. On the third day, He was gloriously resurrected. Later, He ascended to the Father, where, one day, we will be with Him in a place we will call home, to have fellowship together with our Jesus, Messiah, Saviour of the world.

Prayer: Thank you, Jesus, for all the time You spent upon this earth, teaching, healing, and, finally, paying the price for our sin. As we lovingly remember You, give us peace. And may we always pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Amen.
