John 14:27 – Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. (KJV)

At one time or another we have all been bumped, and it hurts. I once worked for a company where I trained my best friend, so I thought, to do my job, and guess what! They gave her my job!

It hurt at the time, but it was not life-threatening. Time passed and I had forgotten it, until something came up today. A woman I knew was scheduled to start her chemotherapy today, and yesterday she received a call from the hospital. They had cancelled her appointment. She got bumped.

This is a time, I am sure, that would cause pain, not physical, but emotional. She had built herself up and was ready to approach the treatment, come what may. But this cancellation took away the courage she had mustered.

What do we do when hurt seems overwhelming? Is there a way to overcome?

John 16:33 – I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. (NIV)

Yes, we can overcome when we get bumped, if we take leave of the situation and put our trust in God. By being faithful to Him and trusting in His timing, we can be assured that, in all the bumps we get here on earth, He has overcome, and He will never allow us to be overwhelmed by circumstance, no matter what.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, though the bumps we suffer in life sometimes seem overwhelming, help us to trust in You, and let us take heart in the words of Your Son, who has overcome the world, so that we might have peace. We come, trusting in the name of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen.
