Psalm 142:6-7 – Attend to my cry, for I am brought very low; deliver me from my persecutors, for they are stronger than I. Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise Your name; the righteous shall surround me, for You shall deal bountifully with me. (NKJV)

Some time ago I sent out a prayer request on this devotional page. What I was really doing, I realized later, was sending out a cry for help. My wife and I were very discouraged, and we needed encouragement and direction.

We knew that the only way we would find our way was to pray, and even to ask others to pray with us and for us. We needed to ask God to show us his way.

This was where so many Christian friends who read the Daily, many we had never met, and some we did know, started to pray for us. Not only did they pray, but they also sent words of encouragement, ideas, and passages of scripture for us to read and contemplate. The response to our prayer request, our cry for help, was unbelievable. God answered our prayers with a resounding confirmation that He wasn't finished with us yet.

Not only did these Christian friends help us with prayer, but some encouraged me to start writing devotionals again. This was something I used to do, but hadn't done for approximately two years. This devotional is partly a "thank you" to God and to all who prayed for us, and also a new start to my writing career.

But my point is that this experience emphasized for me the absolute importance of prayer. When we are asked by others to pray for them, we can serve God by being steadfast prayer warriors on their behalf. We not only pray for an answer, but we also become an answer to their prayer.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we give you all the honour, the glory, and the praise for answering our prayers. We thank you for sending us friends to pray for us in times of discouragement, and for always being there for us when we need you. Amen.
