Deuteronomy 30:11-14 – For this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not hidden from thee, neither is it far off. It is not in heaven, that thou shouldest say, "Who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it?" The weekend of October 13th and 14th lent us an opportunity for some food for thought for our "Daily" needs. Something went awry with the server and we didn't get our daily dose of devotionals. Weekends also aren't a time when there is an abundance — if indeed, any — technical support from Internet service providers. And although our Technical Editor does all he can to make amends, the problem isn't entirely able to be fixed by him, and so we wait, hoping it will eventually show up in our "mailbox".

Maybe we just go without, or, missing it and finding we need to fill the void that's left when we don't get our Daily dose of devotionals, we go to the source — the website — and there it is, waiting for us. If it is not there, we can look for a scripture passage from the Bible directly.

Is this not a prime example of how we have come to live our lives complacently? We get so used to things being at our fingertips, in a sense, "done for us". We turn on a computer, a radio, or a television, and it's on in an instant. We can add water to mixes and turn out cakes, cookies, muffins, or meals that used to take our mothers and us hours to prepare. Our vehicles have gauges to tell us if our oil and gas are getting low, instead of having to guess; our radiators rarely boil over and our tires don't usually "blow". We are used to having things run somewhat smoothly, take less time, and be at our "beck and call" — until such time as they aren't — and we call for someone to fix it or do it for us.

Perhaps that is the message meant for us when we get days such as those when the Daily doesn't get mailed out; when things don't seem to work out the way we expect. Perhaps He's reminding us that we need to remember to take time to acknowledge the things we are given so freely. Perhaps it is His way of telling us not always to expect to have things done for us, that sometimes we need to search for the things we seek with the tools He has given us.

Prayer: Lord, when we awaken each day, may we look to you and offer thanks before we expect or assume that You are with us. Help us not to gripe when things don't seem to be going our way; may we take a moment to reflect and realize that perhaps they are going Your way. In Your name we pray. Amen.
